Mental Health, Substance Abuse Services

The Center offers mental health outpatient services to approximately 86,348 residents in our six county region. Clinical staff are masters level clinicians, licensed or license eligible. Our mental health professionals are trained in a broad range of therapeutic modalities. Treatment modalities are utilized according to individual client needs and contractual agreements. Services are delivered in a variety of settings and may be offered at the clinic, the client’s home, or in a school environment.

Emergency Services
The Center has a dedicated emergency services team available to respond to emergency calls in all six counties, 24-hours a day, 7 days a week. Crisis intervention, suicide/homicide risk assessment, emergency mental health and alcohol commitments, and debriefings are among the services provided.

Individual Therapy
Individual therapy allows the client the opportunity to explore and resolve personal problems in a one-to-one setting. The approach is usually intensive, brief, problem specific, with short-term goals, such as problem resolution, decision making or reducing the effects of a symptom. Outcomes are based on measurable goals. Treatment is most often Cognitive/Behavioral though a variety of treatment modalities are used, depending on the treatment needs of the individual or family.

Group Therapy
Group therapy allows clients to share their personal and interpersonal problems in a group setting where feedback can be given and received among group members. Through this process, clients have the opportunity to develop support systems, rehearse new interact ional patterns and recognize the impact of their behavior on themselves and others.

DBT
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is offered for adults whose self-harming thought and behaviors grossly interfere with their functioning. Through weekly psychotherapy sessions, methods for coping with these sudden, intense surges of emotion are learned. Adaptive behaviors are taught and reinforced to help manage emotional crises. In weekly DBT group sessions, Interpersonal effectiveness, distress tolerance/reality acceptance skills, emotion regulation, and mindfulness skills are taught and practiced.

Family Therapy
Family therapy is used most often when the client is in direct or meaningful contact with the nuclear family on a regular basis and the presenting problems are viewed as, at least in part, emanating from conflicts within the family.

Early Childhood Mental Health Services

The Early Childhood Program focuses on children 0 to 5 years of age and provides consultation to familes, preschools and day care providers; advocacy for families and children; and direct services and referrals. The program includes outreach to the community and collabaoration with other service agencies in the communities.

Psychiatric Evaluations
The Center’s psychiatric staff conduct psychiatric evaluations to assess a person's need for medications. The psychiatric staff work in collaboration with local physicians who are primary providers for Center clients.

Medication Management
Psychiatric services are routinely available for prescriptions, adjustment and monitoring of psychotropic medication. Clients are educated in proper medication usage, intended benefits and adverse effects of medications, and on the importance of consistency in taking medications to control the symptoms of mental illness.

Case Management Services
Case management services are provided to help clients access other community support systems and to coordinate treatment services. An assessment helps determine what community resources the client needs. Case management services are provided through linkage, advocacy, service planning, follow-up, monitoring, and crisis management.

Nursing Home Services
Referrals for OBRA screenings are made to the OBRA Coordinator, who assigns trained evaluators to assess individuals at private homes, hospitals and local nursing homes. OBRA evaluations assess the mental health needs for individuals who are or will be placed in nursing homes. Clinical staff make treatment recommendations and may also provide consultation to nursing homes.
